The West Daly Regional Council covers 14,000 square kilometres and is located about 300 to 420 kilometres south-west of Darwin. The area is mainly rural, with three Indigenous communities at Peppimenarti, Nganmarriyanga and Wadeye which are managed by West Daly Regional Council (Council).

Council’s vision is to work together to make a difference in the community by creating places that are respectful, peaceful, and safe. The mission of Council is to walk alongside culture, country, and people to build a stronger community and does it by working together, creating real opportunities, and providing services and facilities that everyone can use.

To be successful in this role, you will be an experienced executive from within the Local Government or Community Services space with an understanding of remote communities and what it takes to build sustainable relationships with key stakeholders including all levels of government. You will be an entrepreneurial individual and progressive thinker who will both initiate business enhancement opportunities and embrace change. Your track record of respecting and working in partnership with community will be critical to your success in this position.

You will bring a breadth of leadership skills and experiences that position you to lead and support staff in a measured and considered way that encourages individuals and allows them to shine.

The Council’s long-term goals are to:

  • Provide high quality services within financial resources available.
  • Grow existing industry and skilled local workforce.
  • Maintain and develop council’s assets, natural resources, and country.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead our Executive Leadership structure and further the commitment to demonstrating inspirational leadership and championing the people we walk alongside every day (WDRC staff) and the people we work for (WDRC communities).

The Chief Executive Officer role, based in Darwin, it is expected that our new Chief Executive Officer will split their time between our Darwin Office and our Wadeye office which is the gateway to our communities at Nganmarriyanga and Peppimenarti.
