Goomalling is 132 km north-east of Perth, nestled in the Avon Valley about 30 minutes drive from Northam, Toodyay and Dowerin. The Shire covers an area of 1800 square klms with a population of approximately 1100 people, of which 600 reside in the town and 500 on rural properties. Goomalling has excellent health, community, and education facilities and services, plus employment and business opportunities, shops, emergency services, and affordable land and housing. Goomalling is the gateway to the Central Wheatbelt, and its main industry is agriculture.

As Chief Executive Officer you will take overall corporate responsibility for the organisation. You will foster a customer service focus, a positive team culture, a cohesive relationship with the Council and the community and a basis for efficient planning and delivery of services provided by the organisation. You will develop and lead the goals and objectives of the Council as set out in plans, budgets, capital works programs and integrated and asset management plans. You will be accountable for the Shire’s human, financial and physical resources whilst acting as the face of the organisation in the community.

Ideally, you will have intimate knowledge of the workings of local government or have worked within a senior management capacity. Additionally, you will hold relevant tertiary qualifications or have equivalent relevant senior management experience as well as sound knowledge of the outside operations of a large remote Shire and rating of mining tenements.

This position is offered on a performance-based contract of between three and five years with a remuneration package negotiable between $136,023 and $213,356 per annum. The package includes a base salary commensurate with the skills and qualifications of the successful applicant, subsidised housing, a motor vehicle with private use, generous annual leave and superannuation, and utilities allowances.
