Situated in the remote far north of South Australia – 850km from Adelaide and 680km from Alice Springs, Coober Pedy is known nationally and internationally as the “Opal Capital of the World”. With a population of approximately 1,700 people, it is a tight knit community and a popular tourist hub that has recently won the SA small-town tourism award. The region boasts all the essential amenities and services including a childcare centre.

A rare opportunity has presented to appoint a suitably qualified and motivated professional to the role of Chief Executive Officer.

Reporting to the three Administrators and working in close collaboration with Council staff and key stakeholders, the CEO’s key responsibilities include:

• Lead, manage, motivate and engage the team in the delivery of Council services
• Review and deliver the Annual Business Plan, Strategic Plan and Asset Management Plan
• Manage infrastructure and deliver key projects within agreed timelines
• Drive economic development and tourism
• Provide sound financial management and advice
• Effective community and stakeholder engagement
• Media, marketing and communications
• Reporting and collaboration with the three Administrators

Ideally, we are seeking a strong and inspirational leader and manager with a sound commercial mindset. You will need to be financially savvy to assist and guide Council through a challenging period. Your excellent communication skills and collaborative approach will see you establish and maintain outstanding working relationships with key stakeholders. It is essential that you are willing to relocate permanently to Coober Pedy and have a proven background in uniting communities. Candidates with Local Government experience will be well received.

The total remuneration package offered will be within the Level 8 banding recently determined by the Remuneration Tribunal. A fully furnished Council house and the unlimited private use of a motor vehicle can be negotiated as part of the overall remuneration package.
