Sharing Stories - City of Greater Geraldton
Ross McKim is CEO of the City of Greater Geraldton, in regional Western Australia. It has never been a better time to consider a sea change and enjoy a career move to the fresh air regions, naturally traffic free.
Regional WA is very grateful that the Federal and State measures have kept the area safe and COVID-19 free.
Whilst we have not faced the health challenges that other councils have, some sectors of our business community have really suffered with local residents losing jobs.
A number of initiatives have blossomed here in Geraldton particularly in the social media space. Our strong media following has resulted in regular comms particularly via Facebook with over 75% residents reach. This was most evident with our Local Legends Series and our Open for Business initiatives both promoting community spirit and positive news stories.
Like all councils we have had great success in redeployment of staff resources with inspiring creativity resulting from individuals and teams having the unexpected opportunity to work in a different way.
Looking to the future there are a number of special projects in the pipeline here in vibrant Geraldton. One standout is Sir Richard Branson announcing Houtman Abrolhos Islands as a Mission Blue Hot Spot joining 85 other ocean conservation sites globally. This together with Abrolhos Adventures Fast Ferry enterprise represent significant further tourism potential on top of our already amazing natural tourism attractions and experiences.
Any way you look at it, Geraldton is Open for Business ... Well and truly together on the Road to Recovery.
