Chief Executive Officer | Greater Whitsunday Alliance
Mackay, Queensland | Circa $300,000 TRP plus vehicle

Lead regional ambition. Influence investment. Convert opportunity into lasting economic impact.

  • Lead economic growth across Mackay, Isaac and Whitsunday
  • Influence government, industry and investment at the highest level
  • Shape the future of one of Australia’s strongest regional economies

Greater Whitsunday Alliance (GW3) is the peak regional economic development organisation for the Mackay, Isaac and Whitsunday region—one of Australia’s productive and strategically important regional economies.

Working at the intersection of industry and government, GW3 brings together leaders, evidence and investment to advance priorities. It advocates for infrastructure and policy, attracts investment, supports industry development and builds the partnerships needed to strengthen established sectors while unlocking emerging opportunities.

The Board is seeking a Chief Executive Officer to lead GW3 into its next phase.

Reporting to the Chair and Board, you will provide strategic, commercial and organisational leadership. You will sharpen priorities, strengthen financial sustainability and translate evidence and advocacy into initiatives with measurable value. As a credible voice for the region, you will influence across government, industry, councils, investors and community stakeholders—bringing interests together around opportunities.

Your early mandate will include strengthening GW3’s partnership and revenue model, assessing organisational capability and performance disciplines, and advancing flagship regional projects. You will also maintain strong governance, support an accountable team, and ensure GW3 remains trusted, sustainable and focused on whole-of-region outcomes.

You will be an experienced executive with sound judgement, political awareness and a record of delivering strategic, economic or commercial outcomes in a complex environment. Experience in economic development, industry, infrastructure, government, regional development or a related commercial setting will be valuable.

More important will be your capacity to work constructively with a Board, mobilise stakeholders, lead through ambiguity and turn strategic intent into delivery.

This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of a region powering traditional industries while building new capability across decarbonisation, digital transformation, diversification, infrastructure, energy, water and workforce development.

The role is based in Mackay and offers a circa $300,000 total remuneration package, a fully maintained vehicle, relocation assistance and executive development support.
