Manager Technical Services – Burdekin Shire Council – Ayr QLD

  • Shape infrastructure planning, civil design and delivery
  • Lead civil design, asset management and facilities
  • TRP $240k inclusive of cash, super and vehicle option

Burdekin Shire Council is seeking an experienced civil engineering professional to join the organisation as Manager Technical Services. Reporting to the Director Infrastructure, Planning and Environmental Services, this management role leads Council’s civil design, asset management and facilities functions and contributes to broader organisational priorities through the Senior Leadership Group.

The position combines technical engineering leadership with input into infrastructure planning, capital priorities and longer-term asset investment. The Design Office is a priority within the portfolio, with an established team delivering predominantly roads and drainage designs and requiring a Manager who can provide timely technical review, practical feedback and direction to keep designs progressing through to construction-ready documentation.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing timely technical review and direction across Council’s civil design program, with a strong emphasis on roads and drainage.
  • Supporting designers and graduate engineers with practical technical guidance, mentoring and leadership.
  • Contributing to infrastructure strategy, capital planning, budgets and future investment priorities.
  • Leading civil design, asset management and facilities through an enabling and accountable leadership approach.
  • Providing senior engineering advice and regularly presenting technical matters to Council and elected members.

The position will suit an experienced civil engineering manager or senior engineer ready to broaden their leadership responsibilities. Strong roads and drainage design experience, sound technical judgement, energy and the confidence to take ownership and progress decisions are essential.

An extended handover with the retiring incumbent provides valuable access to established technical and organisational knowledge while allowing the incoming Manager to develop their own approach to the portfolio.
