Glamorgan Spring Bay Council is seeking an experienced and community-minded Environmental Health Officer to join our Environment Health team to help support the healthy, safe and thriving communities across Tasmania’s East Coast.

This is an ongoing part-time position, working 2 to 3 days (15 to 22.5 hours) per week, with an annual salary of $80,019 to $92,204 per annum (pro rata), plus 18.5% superannuation, 6.5% of which may be taken as salary.

About the Role

Reporting to the Senior Environmental Health Officer, you will play an important role in protecting and promoting public and environmental health across the Glamorgan Spring Bay municipality.

The role provides a diverse mix of regulatory, advisory and community-focused work, including:

  • Undertaking inspections of food businesses, public facilities, swimming pools and other regulated premises.
  • Investigating environmental health complaints and working with relevant parties to achieve practical and compliant outcomes.
  • Providing environmental health advice and education to residents, businesses and community groups.
  • Maintaining accurate inspection, investigation and compliance records.
  • Interpreting and applying relevant environmental health legislation, regulations and standards.
  • Working collaboratively with Council’s Planning and Natural Resource Management functions on environmental matters.
  • Liaising with relevant State Government agencies and participating in statewide Local Government networks.
  • Contributing to Council’s strategic planning and environmental health priorities.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will hold a Degree in Environmental Health, or another qualification recognised by the Director of Public Health for appointment as an Environmental Health Officer in Tasmania, and hold a current driver’s licence.

You will also bring demonstrated environmental health inspection and investigation experience, sound knowledge of relevant legislation, strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively engage, educate, negotiate and manage competing priorities.

You will be comfortable working autonomously while also contributing positively to a collaborative team environment.

Previous Local Government experience will be highly regarded.
