Communications Officer
Temporary Part-Time Maternity Relief (until October 2027)
Swan Hill Rural City Council is seeking a motivated and creative Communications Officer to join our team on a temporary part-time maternity relief basis. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys a mix of writing, digital content creation, community engagement, media relations and event promotion. You'll work closely with staff across the organisation, helping communicate Council's projects, services and achievements to the community.
No two days are ever the same. One day may involve developing a media release, capturing a community event or creating engaging content for digital platforms. The next could see you updating website content, producing the monthly community newsletter or supporting the delivery of a community engagement initiative.
About the Role
As Communications Officer, you will:
- Write and distribute media releases, community updates and other communications materials
- Develop engaging content for Council's social media channels
- Coordinate and produce Council's monthly community newsletter
- Update and maintain website content
- Promote Council events and coordinate media opportunities
- Capture photographs and create short videos for communications purposes
- Prepare speeches, newsletters and other publications
- Support community engagement activities and online consultation platforms
- Provide communications advice and support to staff across the organisation
- Help maintain Council branding and publication standards
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Qualifications in Communications, Media, Marketing, Public Relations or a related discipline
- Experience in, or a strong understanding of, media and communications practices
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to adapt your writing style for a range of audiences and communication channels
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
- A proactive and collaborative approach, with the confidence to build positive relationships across the organisation and community

What we offer
- Temporary Part-Time Maternity Relief position until October 2027
- 27.6 hours per week, working Wednesday to Friday
- $39.91 per hour
- 15% superannuation
