Turn frontline friction into smarter ways of working

If you've spent your career in the thick of field based operations, council depots, construction sites, utility networks or anywhere crews are out getting the job done, you'll know exactly the kind of friction that slows them down. As Operational Improvement Planner, you'll dig into service data, field observations and community feedback to spot what's causing it, then design practical fixes that stick.

This is a functional leadership role with real influence and no direct reports. You'll work alongside Team Leaders, Supervisors and field teams across City Operations, building the trust to shift how people plan, prioritise and use our systems, without ever needing to pull rank.

You'll be out in the field more than behind a desk, testing ideas with the people who'll use them and helping embed new systems and processes into everyday practice. It's a role for someone who backs their judgement, communicates well and genuinely enjoys making things run better.

Key responsibilities of this position include:

• Lead diagnostic reviews across City Operations to identify inefficiencies, duplication and service gaps, and design practical, measurable improvements
• Coach and influence Team Leaders, Supervisors and field crews to embed consistent, accountable work practices, without direct people management responsibility
• Provide functional leadership during the rollout of new systems and processes, translating them into practical field based workflows
• Maintain a regular presence in the field, building trusted relationships with crews while embedding safety and risk awareness into everyday planning

About You

We are looking for someone who demonstrates, through behaviour, an alignment and an understanding of Our Values and has the following qualifications, skills and experience:

• A diploma in operations, business improvement, project management, asset management, civil operations, or a related discipline, or substantial relevant experience
• Demonstrated experience leading improvements to work planning, scheduling, prioritisation, systems use and coordination in a field based operational environment
• Significant experience in a field based operational environment such as local government, civil construction, utilities, infrastructure maintenance or similar
• Proven ability to influence frontline teams, supervisors and leaders without direct line authority to embed changed work practices and achieve measurable outcomes
• Strong analytical, communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to facilitate change
• A current Class C driver's licence
