Northern Grampians Shire Council is seeking an outstanding Manager Governance to lead a high-performing multidisciplinary team responsible for governance, risk, records, property management, insurance, civic support and statutory compliance.

About the role

Reporting to the Director Corporate Services, you’ll lead a broad and dynamic portfolio that sits at the heart of Council.

You’ll provide strategic leadership across:

  • Governance and legislative compliance
  • Council and committee meeting governance
  • Councillor support and advisory services
  • Enterprise risk management
  • Freedom of Information and Privacy
  • Records and information management
  • Insurance and claims management
  • Property management
  • Cemetery Trust administration
  • Civic and executive support

This is a highly influential leadership role where you’ll provide trusted advice to the Executive Leadership Team and Councillors while ensuring Council operates with transparency, integrity and accountability.

About you

We’re looking for a confident, collaborative leader who thrives in complex environments and enjoys building strong relationships.

You’ll bring:

  • Significant leadership experience in governance, compliance, risk, local government or a similarly regulated environment
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and developing high-performing people
  • Strong knowledge of governance frameworks, legislation and statutory obligations
  • Outstanding communication and relationship management skills
  • The ability to provide strategic advice while remaining hands-on when required
  • Experience working in politically sensitive environments and partnering with senior stakeholders
  • A continuous improvement mindset with the ability to modernise systems and processes

A qualification in governance, law, business, public administration or a related discipline is desirable; however, we value demonstrated experience and leadership just as highly.
