The Opportunity

We have an opportunity for a resourceful and professional individual to deliver a range of biosecurity, invasive weed, and vertebrate pest management programs and activities in alignment with statutory obligations and policy frameworks, aimed at protecting and enhancing the agricultural productivity and biodiversity of the Bega Valley Shire.

As a Biosecurity and Invasive Species Officer, you will develop and implement biosecurity inspection programs across public and private lands and design and deliver biosecurity management programs for invasive weed species. You will provide expert advice on invasive species management, coordinate weed and vertebrate pest control activities, and work collaboratively with landholders, community groups and government agencies to achieve positive biosecurity outcomes.

About You

We are seeking an individual who holds a Degree-level qualification in Environmental or Natural Resource Management or other related discipline, along wtih two (2) years recent experience in the biosecurity and invasive species management.

You will have the following skills and experience;

  • Demonstrated thorough knowledge and experience of contemporary biosecurity and invasive species management issues especially relating to weed management and biodiversity impacts and rehabilitation projects and management programs involving pest species.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in conducting investigations, interviewing and statement taking, assessing, and collating evidence, and preparing and instituting legal proceedings.
  • Demonstrated skills in interpreting and applying legislation relevant to local government and the environment, in particular, natural resource management legislation including the Local Government Act 1993, the Biosecurity Act 2015 and the Pesticides Act 1999 and Regulation 2017.
  • High level written and verbal communication skills including workshop development and community presentations and the ability to liaise and negotiate effectively with internal and external stakeholders on complex environmental matters.

Benefits

This is a permanent, full time position working 38 hours per week.

The total remuneration package for this position commences at $99,303.86 gross per annum, comprising of:

  • $1,705.08 per week base salary
  • $204.61 per week superannuation (calculated at 12%)
