About the role…

Reporting to the Manager Development & Regulatory, the Coordinator Planning Services is responsible for leading the day to day delivery of Council's planning and development assessment services. This is a hands on leadership role that combines technical planning expertise with people leadership, customer service and operational coordination.

You will lead a small professional team, oversee development assessment processes, provide expert planning advice and ensure applications are assessed efficiently, consistently and in accordance with legislative requirements. Working closely with developers, consultants, builders, government agencies and the community, you will play a key role in facilitating quality development outcomes across the City of Port Lincoln.

What you will do…

  • Team Leadership - Coordinate and support Council's Planning Services team, providing leadership, mentoring and technical guidance while fostering a collaborative and customer-focused culture.
  • Development Assessment - Oversee and undertake planning assessments, ensuring development applications are processed efficiently and consistently in accordance with legislation and the Planning and Design Code.
  • Technical Advice - Provide expert planning advice and support to staff, applicants, developers, consultants, Council and the broader community.
  • Stakeholder Engagement - Build positive relationships with developers, government agencies, consultants and the community to achieve practical development outcomes.
  • Governance & Compliance - Ensure compliance with the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act, statutory timeframes, internal procedures and reporting requirements.
  • Continuous Improvement - Identify opportunities to strengthen systems, improve service delivery and enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of Council's planning services.
  • Operational Support - Assist the Manager Development & Regulatory with operational planning, reporting, workload management and service improvement initiatives.

What they are looking for…

  • Degree qualifications in Urban and Regional Planning or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in development assessment within local government or a similar planning environment.
  • Sound knowledge of the South Australian planning and development legislative framework.
  • Experience leading, supervising or coordinating a small professional team.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and customer service skills with the ability to build productive working relationships.
  • Well-developed communication, report writing and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret legislation, planning policy and technical information and apply sound professional judgement.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and statutory timeframes.
  • Experience with PlanSA and local government development systems will be highly regarded.
