About the role…
Reporting to the Manager Development Services, this specialist leadership role is responsible for coordinating Council's Building Services function and providing expert technical advice across a broad range of development and building matters.
You will play a key role in ensuring development complies with the National Construction Code and relevant legislation while balancing customer service with sound regulatory decision making. Working closely with builders, developers, architects, property owners and internal stakeholders, you will help facilitate quality development outcomes across the city.
This role also provides leadership to the Building Services team, ensuring a collaborative, customer focused and high performing work environment.
What you will do…
- Lead Council's Building Services team, providing technical leadership, coaching and support.
- Assess development applications for compliance with the National Construction Code, legislation and Australian Standards.
- Undertake building inspections and issue approvals and occupancy certificates.
- Provide specialist advice to Council, the Executive Leadership Team, industry professionals and the community on building legislation and accessibility requirements.
- Work collaboratively with builders, designers, developers and property owners to achieve practical and compliant development outcomes.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives, policies and procedures within the Building Services function.
- Ensure accurate records, legislative compliance and quality customer service across all building activities.
- Maintain professional accreditation and remain current with legislative and industry changes.
What we are looking for…
- Accredited Building Surveyor (Level 1 or Level 2).
- Extensive knowledge of building legislation, regulations, codes and Australian Standards.
- Experience assessing complex building applications and undertaking statutory inspections.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop and support a small professional team.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to explain technical information in a practical and customer focused manner.
- Highly organised with the ability to manage competing priorities and exercise sound professional judgement.
- A collaborative and solutions focused approach, supported by integrity, accountability and professionalism.
Experience within Local Government will be highly regarded; however, candidates from private certification or related sectors looking to make the transition are encouraged to apply.
