The Town of Port Hedland is seeking an experienced and strategic leader to join the organisation as Manager Strategy & Communications. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, this influential role leads a broad portfolio encompassing strategy, corporate performance, communications, marketing, government relations, funding, partnerships and advocacy.

With a new CEO, a newly elected Council and an organisation focused on renewal and improvement, this is an opportunity to shape strategic direction, strengthen stakeholder confidence and drive meaningful outcomes for one of Australia's most significant regional communities.

Leading a multidisciplinary team of eight professionals, the successful candidate will provide strategic advice to the CEO and leadership team while ensuring organisational priorities are translated into measurable outcomes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the Strategy and Communications business unit and providing direction, stability and capability development across the team.
  • Driving strategic planning, corporate performance and organisational improvement initiatives.
  • Overseeing communications, marketing and stakeholder engagement activities that strengthen community confidence and organisational reputation.
  • Building productive relationships with elected members, government agencies, industry partners and funding bodies.
  • Identifying and securing partnership, advocacy and funding opportunities that support community outcomes.
  • Supporting implementation of key organisational priorities and the Council's broader transformation agenda.

The ideal candidate will bring strong strategic capability, proven people leadership experience and highly developed stakeholder engagement skills. Experience working within local government, state / federal government, infrastructure, resources or other complex operating environments will be highly regarded.

The role is a 3-5 year contract position and offers a cash base of $155,000 to $180,000 plus superannuation, Council-provided housing, a fully maintained vehicle, six weeks annual leave, relocation assistance of up to $15,000, utility contributions and free gym membership.
