• 9-day fortnightAbout the role
We’re seeking an experienced and motivated Team Leader Public Spaces Compliance to lead the
delivery of ethical, efficient and customer-focused regulatory services that help keep our community
safe, accessible and well-managed.
This leadership role oversees a diverse team responsible for companion animal management, parking
enforcement, public space compliance and impounding operations. You’ll provide operational
leadership, coordinate investigations and enforcement activities, and promote balanced compliance
outcomes through education, engagement and fair enforcement.
What you’ll be doing
• Lead, supervise, mentor and performance manage the Public Spaces Compliance team
(Rangers, Parking & Public Spaces Officer, Animal Shelter staff).
• Coordinate compliance and enforcement activities across public spaces, parking and
companion animal management.
• Oversee investigations, evidence management and legal compliance processes.
• Supervise Council animal shelter and impounding operations.
• Support continuous improvement through procedures, policies and operational best practice.
• Foster strong working relationships with internal stakeholders, government agencies and the
broader community
About You
You are a confident and capable leader with experience in regulatory compliance, local government or
a related field. You bring strong communication and problem-solving skills, the ability to manage
sensitive situations professionally, and a commitment to delivering positive community outcomes. You
are an experienced compliance leader who thrives in fast-paced operational environments and can
confidently balance enforcement responsibilities with customer-focused outcomes.
You will ideally have:
• Experience leading compliance or regulatory teams.
• Knowledge of relevant legislation relating to public spaces, parking and companion animals.
• Strong investigation, enforcement and conflict resolution skills and preparing legal
documentation
• Experience managing staff performance and operational service delivery.
• Excellent organisational skills with attention to detail and record keeping.
• A commitment to ethical decision-making and community engagement
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities

Explain how you supported staff development, maintained consistent performance standards,
addressed performance issues, and kept the team working collaboratively and positively.
Q2. Describe a time you managed a complex or sensitive compliance issue involving public
spaces, companion animals, or another regulatory breach. Explain your role, how you handled
the situation, the outcome achieved, and any lessons learnt, or process improvements identified
from the experience.
Q3. Describe a time you handled a difficult compliance-related interaction with a member of the
public. Explain the challenge, how you managed the situation and communicated compliancerequirements, the outcome, and any lessons you learnt to improve future relationships and
interactions.

This position is located at Council's Grafton office, however, this may change should business needs
identify other work locations to be more appropriate to deliver our services in the future.
