We have an exciting opportunity for a permanent full time Senior Media and Communications Specialist to
join the Corporate Communications Branch within the Council.
This role leads the strategic direction of media and communications for the Office of the Mayor, shaping a
strong, community-focused voice that reflects Council’s priorities and strengthens connection with the City
of Logan. You will provide high-level advice to the Mayor, Councillors and senior leaders, drive proactive
storytelling that elevates Logan’s profile, and ensure all communications are clear, consistent and aligned
with Council’s corporate responsibilities. With a focus on impact, innovation and reputation, the role
champions high-quality communications across media, digital and community channels.
Position responsibilities include:
• Deliver media and communications strategies aligned with Council priorities
• Provide strategic guidance to the Mayor, Councillors, and senior staff
• Promote proactive stories that elevate the City of Logan
• Oversee enquiries, statements and high-profile issues
• Support the Mayor and Councillors for media engagements
• Produce and review releases, speeches and key messaging
• Build strong relationships with media and Councillors
• Coordinate clear, accurate messaging across Council.
Key indicators for success:
• Bachelor’s degree and/or proven expertise in journalism, public relations or communications
• Strong background in journalism, media, communications or public affairs; senior newsroom
experience valued
• Established connections with journalists and presenters across platforms
• Thrives in fast paced environments and manages competing priorities with ease
• Advanced writing and speaking skills across speeches, releases, briefings and digital formats
• Strong understanding of media relations, digital platforms and the evolving communications
landscape
• Must pass pre-employment and background checks as required: National Police History Check,
C class driver licence required, Working with Children Paid Blue Card
• After hours availability – may be rostered for after hours on call duties.
