- Senior leadership role shaping essential works and infrastructure services
- Lead roads, maintenance, capital works and contractor delivery
- Make a visible impact in a distinctive outback Queensland community
Welcome to Boulia Shire Region, a magical place in outback Queensland, where the wide-open plains provide a canvas for arguably Queensland's best sunsets. Known as the capital of the Channel Country, seasonal rain brings to life braided channels which run through the flat plains, occasionally spilling into billabongs, eventually reaching the Lake Eyre Basin. A stunning place in Australia where the outback changes shape, coming to life before your eyes.
The opportunity
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, this is a pivotal role responsible for leading a broad works and infrastructure portfolio, supporting service delivery across the Shire, and helping shape the next phase of Council's organisational capability. The portfolio spans a broad and evolving range of responsibilities, including roads, maintenance, infrastructure delivery, asset renewal and contractor coordination. You will work closely with internal teams, contractors, service providers and government stakeholders to deliver operational and capital outcomes across a geographically large and highly important regional council area.
This is an outstanding opportunity for a values-led leader to guide infrastructure programs, strengthen systems and processes, mentor staff, and build long-term organisational capability in a high-performing, community-focused environment.
About you
You will be a practical senior leader with experience across infrastructure, works, operations, project delivery or a related service environment, and the ability to lead teams through change while maintaining strong service standards.
You will bring senior leadership capability in program oversight, contractor management and service delivery, with strong communication, commercial judgement and a collaborative, community-minded approach. Experience in local government, regional service delivery, infrastructure planning, asset renewal, capital works or disaster recovery will be well regarded.
Tertiary qualifications in engineering, civil construction, infrastructure management or a related field will be highly regarded, along with your equivalent leadership experience and demonstrated capability.
Why consider Boulia?
This is a rare opportunity to take on a genuine leadership role in a remote community where the impact of your work can be seen every day. Boulia Shire offers a strong sense of community, significant professional scope and the chance to contribute to infrastructure and service outcomes that matter deeply to residents and the region.
