Council is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Manager Strategic Planning to lead the delivery of key strategic planning initiatives across the city. Reporting to the Director Planning & Regulatory Services, this role is responsible for driving strategic planning projects, leading a high-performing team, and fostering strong relationships with industry, government and community stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage Council’s Strategic Planning Team and service delivery outcomes
  • Oversee the preparation and implementation of strategic planning projects including masterplans, housing strategies, precinct structure plans and other city-shaping initiatives
  • Provide expert strategic planning advice to Council, executive leadership, industry stakeholders and the community
  • Develop strong partnerships with government agencies, developers, consultants and community groups
  • Manage complex projects, budgets, contracts and stakeholder engagement processes
  • Prepare high-quality reports, presentations and recommendations for Council and senior leadership
  • Promote a positive team culture focused on collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement

About You:

You will be a qualified and skilled planner (Town Planning, Urban Design or similar) with a minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar role driving and delivering outcomes in strategic planning, development assessment, and development contributions. Your background may be within local government, state government, consulting or similar.

In addition to your technical expertise, you will bring proven leadership skills in managing a small professional team, exceptional written and verbal communication, and a strong ability to engage and collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders.
