  About the team

The Utilities Network Operations team sits within Infrastructure Operations and plays a critical role in keeping the Gold Coast’s water, sewer and recycled water networks running safely and reliably. It is a practical, field-connected team that works closely with internal stakeholders, contractors and service providers to plan, coordinate and deliver network works across both planned programs and reactive operational needs. The team operates within a structured risk management framework that considers impacts to People, Environment, Assets and Reputation (PEAR), ensuring operational decisions protect public safety, environmental outcomes, critical infrastructure, and community confidence

About the role

Our Network Operations Officers are responsible for providing expertise for the effective operation of City of Gold Coasts water and recycled water distribution and our sewer connection network.

You will be required to participate in a 24/7 on call roster providing business critical updates. You may also be required to work across different sections within Network Operations when needed.

Role responsibilities:

  • Manage and operate the water, recycled water, or sewer network to maintain reliable service delivery and minimise customer impacts.
  • Scope, plan, and coordinate network interruptions required for maintenance, renewals, refurbishments, and connection/disconnection activities.
  • Investigate network performance and operational issues using SCADA, SAP, and GIS data to support informed decision-making.
  • Utilise and maintain workload planning systems to schedule, assign, track, and record both planned and reactive work activities.
  • Review network designs, construction documentation, and pre-construction drawings to ensure operational requirements are met.
  • Use mobile field applications to execute, capture, and maintain accurate records of field-based activities.
  • Identify, investigate, and report network discrepancies within GIS systems to support data accuracy and continuous improvement.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with internal teams, contractors, and external stakeholders to ensure customer-focused service delivery.
  • Champion a strong safety culture by working safely, promoting safe work practices, and supporting colleagues to do the same.
  • Participate in an on-call roster and provide operational support during after-hours incidents and emergencies as required.

We’re looking for people who have:

  • Knowledge and experience in water and sewerage industry along with SCADA controls systems would be an advantage, particularly in an operational environment.
  • Well-developed interpersonal communication skills with experience in interacting with the public/external stakeholders.
  • Ability to prioritise problems, think laterally, gather, and analyse information to identify possible and future issues
  • Ability to work under pressure to determine the best course of action when assets fail, or customers report problems
  • High quality of service delivery to internal and external customers and reacts responsively to customer expectations
  • Understanding hydraulic principles is an advantage.
  • Extensive ICT competency with experience in data analytics an advantage
  • Enjoy working indoors and outdoors
  • A desire to contribute to and join a high-performing team.
  • Australian C Class Unrestricted Drivers Licence
  • General Induction Construction Card (White)
  • Certificate IV in Water Industry Operations OR demonstrated relevant experience in Utility Network Operations desirable
