- Lead a broad corporate services portfolio in a unique remote community
- Drive service improvement, compliance and organisational capability
- Join a positive ELT and make a lasting impact for Aurukun
The Shire of Aurukun includes much of the traditional country of the Wik, Wik Way and Kugu people. It has rare and beautiful environmental values, and the traditional owners are very proud of their country and traditional culture, which is very strong within their community. Located on the north-west coast of the Cape York Peninsula (178km by road south of Weipa and 811km from Cairns), the shire is bounded by the Holroyd River and Pormupuraaw Deed of Grant in Trust lands to the south, Cook Shire and Archer Bend National Park to the east, the Gulf of Carpentaria to the west, and Cook Shire to the north.
Aurukun Shire Council is an Indigenous community with a population of around 1400 people, delivering services to the community that include education, health, community and welfare services; operation of airport, postal and bank agencies; development and maintenance of roads and housing.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the General Manager Corporate Services will lead the efficient and effective delivery of Council's corporate services portfolio, including financial services, information technology, administrative services, risk management, Council stores, commercial leasing, property management, governance and records management. Overseeing both the Aurukun and Cairns offices, you will foster strong working relationships, promote high-quality service delivery and provide constructive, proactive leadership as part of a positive Executive Leadership Team.
This is a pivotal opportunity for an experienced local government corporate services leader who is customer-centred, compliance focused and confident leading teams in complex, multidisciplinary environments. You will bring sound knowledge of local government legislation and regulations, proven experience managing human, financial and capital resources, and the ability to strengthen systems, processes and capability across the organisation.
You will be a resilient, practical and culturally respectful leader who can build trust with community members, government agencies and internal stakeholders. Remote or Indigenous community experience will be highly valued, along with change leadership capability and a commitment to continuous improvement, service excellence and positive organisational culture. Tertiary qualifications in Business, Accounting, Local Government or a related discipline are required.
With major opportunities ahead, including Council-wide customer service system implementation, funded housing and water upgrades, and continued cultural transformation, this is a rare chance to make a lasting contribution to Aurukun's future.
This is a rare opportunity to lead and direct a team committed to being responsive and performance driven, improving service delivery for their community. This is your opportunity to make a fundamental and life changing difference.
