Team Leader Accounting

The City of Launceston is looking for an experienced accounting leader to take the reins of our Accounting team. This is a role where technical excellence meets genuine leadership, you will own the full suite of core accounting functions, from financial statements and taxation compliance to budgeting and asset accounting, while keeping a sharp eye on continuous improvement and the development of your team. Key responsibilities of this position include:
- Leading and developing a high-performing Accounting Team
- Coordinating the preparation of annual financial statements in line with Australian Accounting Standards
- Managing month-end management and capital reporting for senior and executive leadership
- Overseeing taxation compliance including GST, FBT, payroll tax and land tax returns
- Leading budget preparation and maintaining accuracy of the budget model
- Maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the asset register in line with the Asset Capitalisation Framework
- Supporting the annual preparation of the Long Term Financial Plan and Strategic Asset Management Plan
About You
We are looking for someone who demonstrates, through behaviour, an alignment and an understanding of Our Values and has the following qualifications, skills and experience:
- A relevant tertiary qualification and current membership of CPA Australia or Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand
- Proven experience leading an accounting team, backed by substantial hands on experience in a professional accounting role
- Strong technical accounting knowledge including experience with financial statements, statutory reporting and Australian Accounting Standards
- Proven ability to identify and resolve complex financial issues and communicate clearly with a range of stakeholders
- Sound understanding of financial systems including integration, reporting and end-to-end processing
- Experience with taxation compliance including GST, FBT and payroll tax obligations
