About the team
The Transport Structures Team is part of the City’s Infrastructure and Assets branch and is responsible for the strategic planning, management and renewal of the City’s transport structures network. This includes bridges, major culverts, retaining walls, slopes and other critical structural assets that support the City’s transport network.
The team plays a key role in ensuring structures remain safe, serviceable and resilient, while optimising whole-of-life asset performance and investment. Through risk-based planning and evidence-driven decision-making, the team supports the development and delivery of the Transport Structures Asset Management Plan and long-term capital programs.
You will be part of a multidisciplinary team of engineers and technical specialists who work collaboratively across planning, design, and delivery functions. The team regularly engages with internal stakeholders including project delivery teams, maintenance crews, asset management specialists and executive leadership, as well as external consultants.
Current key focus areas include:
- Retaining wall renewal and risk management
- Landslip and slope stabilisation programs
- Network-wide condition assessment and risk profiling
- Development of forward capital works programs
- Improving asset data, systems and decision-making frameworks

About the role
As the Senior Transport Structures Planner, you will play a key role in ensuring the ongoing safety, serviceability and resilience of the City of Gold Coast’s transport structures network. Providing specialist civil engineering and asset management expertise, you will drive strategic and risk-based planning, support the delivery of Asset Management Plan outcomes, and help shape the future renewal and investment priorities for critical transport infrastructure across the City.
Key responsibilities:
- Foster a strong culture of safety, wellbeing and continuous improvement, ensuring these principles are embedded in all planning and decision-making activities.
- Provide technical leadership and support in the planning and delivery of transport structures projects, with a focus on retaining wall renewals, landslip management and slope stabilisation.
- Coordinate engineering investigations, assessments, options analysis and concept designs to support effective project planning and delivery.
- Apply expert engineering judgement to identify risks and opportunities, resolve complex technical issues and develop practical, cost-effective solutions.
- Ensure all activities align with organisational policies, governance requirements and project management frameworks.
We’re looking for people who have:
- Bachelor Degree of Civil Engineering or equivalent and relevant experience
- C Class Drivers Licence
