Move Launceston Forward

Launceston is growing, and how people move through it matters. As Strategic Transport Advisor, you will be Council's lead voice on transport planning, driving the strategies and programs that make our city more connected, walkable and liveable.

This is a hands-on strategic role with real visibility. You will work across Council and with external partners to turn policy into delivery, from capital works planning and strategy, securing grant funding through to guiding complex projects that directly shape how people access and experience Launceston.

Key responsibilities of this position include:

  • Leading the development and implementation of strategic transport plans, policies and guidelines.
  • Planning and coordinating a forward four‑year transport works program aligned with Council priorities and asset renewal programs.
  • Scoping, managing and supporting the delivery of active transport, traffic safety and strategic transport projects.
  • Leading transport grant programs, including funding applications, delivery oversight and acquittals.
  • Working collaboratively with internal teams, consultants and government agencies to deliver projects on time, on budget and to standard.
  • Preparing high‑quality reports, briefings and presentations for technical and non‑technical audiences, including Council and committees.

About You

We are looking for someone who demonstrates, through behaviour, an alignment and an understanding of Our Values and has the following qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Significant experience managing complex traffic or transport‑related projects in a strategic or infrastructure environment.
  • Strong expertise in transport planning, policy development and program delivery.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with internal teams, consultants, government agencies and stakeholders.
  • Well‑developed written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing reports and advice for a range of audiences.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in traffic engineering, civil engineering, transport planning, urban planning or a related field, and a current driver licence.
